ASPARAGUS

The season starts usually late April or early may ...the exact date depending on the spring weather.Sometimes ,especially at the beginning of the season,if the weather changes (colder) then we may run out of asparagus for picking! Always call the answerphone for each farm before leaving home.

It is very important, when picking the asparagus, that you snap it off at ground level. It must be at least 6 " long .Longer is fine ....it grows so quickly that it doesn't get tough...the whole thing is edible (unlike some foreign asparagus you may find in the supermarket). The fresher it is when you eat it the better it will be!You can however keep it fresh in the fridge maybe stood upright in a small amount of water .
