ARABLE

The Copas Farms' overall arable policy is to grow combinable crops as economically as possible on the best land.  Poorer less productive land will be used for Environmental/Fallow and horse grazing paddocks.  The present economics of arable crops means that some of the poorer land that was in Fallow/Set Aside has come back into production for the 2008 Harvest.  Currently a combination of Winter Wheat, Spring Barley, and Oil Seed Rape is grown.

To maintain efficiency we have to try and maximise our acreage around three tractors, one sprayer, one combine and an articulated lorry.

Since 2000 Copas Farms has been using a minimum cultivation system which has resulted in considerable cost savings with no yield penalty  This method is environmentally friendly but does not involve increased management.

Copas Farms are committed to LEAF Farming, a viable system of agriculture which is environmentally and socially responsible and ensures the continuity to supply safe, affordable food while conserving and enhancing the fabric and wildlife of the countryside for future generations. (Click

We are always interested in taking on additional land and will consider a variety of different arrangements to suit the owner.  Please call James Copas on (01628) 529595 or (07748) 633535 if you would like to discuss this further.

GRAZING LAND

Copas Farms has areas of grazing grassland (particularly around Cookham in Berkshire) and from time to time horse paddocks and stabling become available to rent.  To register interest please call the Farm Office on (01628) 529595 or
